President Ghani meets HCNR chief Abdullah at Arg

KABUL (SW) – President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met with Abdullah Abdullah, Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation for discussion over the intra-Afghan negotiations.

According to a statement issued by the presidency, during the meeting, the two discussed the status and timing of the next round of peace talks with the Taliban. “The Afghan government, together with the Afghanistan Peace Process Support Group, will advance the next stages of the peace talks,” President Ghani said during the meeting.

The first round of intra-Afghan peace talks held in Doha, the capital of Qatar, concluded earlier this month with both sides announcing a three-week pause.

This comes as President Ghani endorsed the idea by National Security Adviser Hamdullah Muhib to have the second round of peace talks inside Afghanistan.

According to the presidency, Chairman of the HCNR Abdullah Abdullah reported developments in regard to the peace parley during this meeting, which was also attended by NSA Muhib.
