News presenter Fardeen dies under ‘suspicious’ circumstances

KABUL (SW) – Fardeen Amini, news presenter for Ariania News, died on Friday under ‘suspicious’ circumstances.

According to the interior ministry, initial probe suggests the journalist committed suicide.

Tariq Arian, spokesman for the interior ministry said Amini cut his throat with a sharp object after receiving a phone call. He said the incident took place in the Munshi Mir Ghulam township in the 17th police district.

A day earlier, Malalai Maiwand of the local Enekas radio and TV network was killed in Jalalabad when was heading to her office in a vehicle along with her driver. Both Maiwand and her driver died on the spot.

Last month, a Helmand-based journalist Elyas Daye and a Kabul based former news presenter Yama Siyawash got killed in terrorist attacks.
