Covid-19 claims 211 more lives in past 24 hours

KABUL (SW) – The coronavirus pandemic continued to claim lives with a relatively high rate as health authorities confirmed 211 more cases in past 24 hours.

The Ministry of Public Health announced that 15 people lost their lives overnight due to the virus in the country in past 24 hours. The ministry said in its daily report on Monday that 2,214 people were tested for the virus and 211 proved to be infected.

According to the Ministry of Public Health, 543 patients recovered in the same period. It said that since the beginning of the spread of the virus to date, 50,888 people across the country have been infected with the virus and 2,089 people have died as a result of the infection.

It added as many as 39,701 people have recovered after first getting infected. According to the Ministry of Public Health, 182,599 people across the country have been tested for corona so far.

Meanwhile, officials at the Herat Health Department said the province had the highest number of infections in past 24 hours.

Mohammad Rafiq Sherzai, spokesman for the Herat Health Department, said that in the past 24 hours, 88 suspected cases were tested in the province’s laboratory out of which 78 proved positive. According to Sherzai, with the identification of these new cases, the number of patients in Herat has reached 8,178 so far, of which 7,046 have recovered.
