Abdullah: Venue should not to be allowed to undermine peace process

KABUL (SW) – Abdullah Abdullah, chairman High Council for National Reconciliation, has said the venue for intra-Afghan talks should not to be allowed to undermine the peace process.

He said this addressing a press conference at the inauguration of the HCNR secretariat. Abdullah said that it would be better to hold the peace talks in Afghanistan, but the venue of the talks will depend on the agreement of both sides and it should not be a hindrance to this process.

He stressed the intra-Afghan talks should lead to an end to the war in the country.

Earlier, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Sunday endorsed the idea of completing the remaining parts of the ongoing intra-Afghan negotiations inside Afghanistan.
Addressing the cabinet meeting, Ghani said the negotiations should continue inside Afghanistan with public having knowledge of the subjects discussed there.

Last week, National Security Adviser Hamdullah Mohib suggested the intra-Afghan negotiations can be completed inside Afghanistan.

The Taliban are yet to express their views on this matter.

The talks in Doha are paused for three weeks with the Afghan government delegation returning to Kabul while the Taliban delegation travelling to Pakistan for a visit.
