WJ rebukes Saleh’s remarks against lawmakers

KABUL (SW) – Members of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) on Tuesday rebuked remarks by the vice president Amrullah Saleh against the lawmakers.

The MPs reacted sharply to remarks made by the VP in which Saleh said that some members of the house have been implicated in corruption.  Speaking at the Afghanistan Conference 2020 in Geneva on Monday, the first vice president said that some members of the parliament were involved in corruption and that in order for the law to be enforced, there was a need to end judicial immunity.

According to Saleh, some members of the WJ threatened to fire the ministers for implementing their illegal demands while preparing the budget document.

However, members of the Wolesi Jirga, the lower house of parliament, in response to remarks made by the first vice president, canceled their official agenda for Tuesday, which included introduction of a number of ministerial nominees and their plans.

Members of house said Saleh has spoken out against the national interest and should be brought to justice. According to them, Saleh’s remarks caused a confrontation between the government institutions and widened the gap between the two pillars of the state.

Ghulam Hussain Naseri, a member of the house, said the first vice president should identify who had committed corruption, or should apologize to lawmakers.

Meanwhile, the Wolesi Jirga Speaker Mir Rahman Rahmani called Amrullah Saleh’s remarks as ‘illegal’ and insisted that members of the lower house should be provide with legal evidence to back these allegations of corruption.
