President Ghani, HCNR chairman Abdullah discuss peace process  

KABUL (SW) – President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah, chairman high council for national reconciliation discussed the peace process at a meeting on Thursday.

According to the presidency, the two leaders discussed various matters related to the thorny peace process and the formation of the HCNR.

A statement by the President’s office said Abdullah briefed Ghani about his latest trip to Tehran. It added the National Security Adviser Hamdullah Muhib briefed the meeting about the overall security situation in the country.

This meeting comes after almost two months since the landmark intra-Afghan peace process began in the Qatari capital, but with very little progress so far. The Afghan government and the Taliban insurgents are yet to finalize agenda and mechanism for the eventual face-to-face talks at these negotiations in Doha.
