28 couples tie knot in mass wedding ceremony in Kabul

KABUL (SW) – At least 28 young couples got married in a mass wedding ceremony held on Sunday, by the “Wessal-e Kawsar” charity organization in Kabul city.

The head of the Wessal-e Kawsar organization, Abdulbasit Rasuli says that holding this ceremony cost nearly 1.5 million Afghanis, which was financed by some well-wishing generous people.

He adds: “Couples from seven provinces who were not able to hold their wedding have participated in this program. The expense of holding this ceremony is 50,000 Afghanis for each person, and 20 to 36 house items are considered for each couple.

Rasuli says that this ceremony was held to reduce the huge costs of weddings and promote group weddings.

The couples in this group wedding ceremony, say that holding such ceremonies can eliminate obscene customs and promote group weddings in the community.

Rahmatullah Ghaffari, one of the grooms, says he has not been able to afford his wedding due to economic problems and unemployment. “It is good for this culture to become popular so that young people do not have to leave the country or work in coal mines to pay for their wedding. I ask the youth to have a low-cost wedding.”

Reza Behzad, another groom who came to Kabul from Bamyan province for his wedding, also says: “I was engaged for a year. I had an opportunity to get married in this way, young individuals must not miss such opportunities; They should do it for culture building.”

A number of participants in this mass wedding ceremony also say that families must encourage their children to hold their wedding ceremony as a group.
