UN asks $5 bln aid for Afghanistan – UNAMA

KABUL (SW) – Recently, Indrika Ratwatte, Deputy Special Representative in Humanitarian Affairs of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), in a meeting with Mohammad Abdul Kabir, Acting Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs of the Islamic Emirate, has said that UN intends to request more aids for capacity-building in Afghanistan.

Thousands of people lose jobs as Swedish Committee cease operations in Afghanistan

KABUL (SW) – In July 2023, the Islamic Emirate ordered the cessation of all Sweden activities in Afghanistan in protest against the burning of the Holy Quran in that country by an Iraqi-origin citizen. Following this decision, significant portions of the Swedish Committee’s activities for Afghanistan were halted, and as of a week ago, all its operations have come to a complete standstill.

Swedish Committee stops operating in Afghanistan

KABUL (SW) – Andreas Stefansson, Secretary-General of the Swedish Committee for Afghanistan, said in a recent interview with a local audio medium that the committee has stopped operating in Afghanistan for the past three days, following a request from the de-facto government of the Islamic Emirate.

IE officials stress importance of continuing international humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan

KABUL (SW) – After the Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy for Afghanistan announced that the United Nations institutions and donor countries had begun reviewing the process of providing aid to Afghanistan, officials in the Ministry of Economy of the Islamic Emirate have reiterated the importance of continuing humanitarian assistance for Afghanistan from the UN and the international community.
