I am Sadaf Yarmal, a journalism graduate, and I currently work as a reporter at a media outlet. My familiarity with artificial intelligence (AI) developed gradually through social media. Today, this technology has become an inseparable part of both my personal and professional life. At times, professional needs—and sometimes personal ones—make AI guidance a necessity in human life. My experience with this technology is also rooted in the current reality of human life, especially in media work, where using AI has become an immediate necessity.
When speed and accuracy in processing news and media reports are crucial, new technologies can effectively assist journalists. These tools, as intelligent assistants, help media work become more structured and executed more quickly. At the beginning of my acquaintance with this technology, I tried to gather information about how it works and the conveniences it provides for users. Gradually, this familiarity developed into a significant part of my professional life.
As my understanding increased and I began working with this technology, I started using it for content production and sometimes for evaluating media outputs. However, it is important not to forget that this technology should function as an intelligent assistant, rather than being entrusted with all tasks. With increased familiarity with AI methods, I use various tools provided by this technology. Chatbots are a major component of AI tools that I use consistently.
My main goal and motivation for learning and working with AI is to enhance the quality and speed of media work. In an era of growing communication and social media platforms, AI tools represent an advanced form of new technologies. Therefore, proper familiarity and use of AI can improve the quality of media work and content production. Media work demands speed and accuracy, and in this regard, AI can be a helpful tool for journalists. From news production to text revision, new technologies serve journalists and their audiences.
Of course, alongside the conveniences and advantages AI offers, there are also challenges and concerns. If used improperly, this technology may lead to personal information leaks or the dissemination of false content. There are cases where some users misuse AI tools to harm individuals’ personality, manipulating images or writing texts to make claims that are not true. Therefore, when using AI, it is essential to follow key principles, including methodical use, maintaining a critical perspective, and treating it as an intelligent assistant. We should not leave all subjects and decisions to this technology.
Alongside working with AI, it is crucial to preserve a critical perspective toward phenomena. The key is not to forget our critical thinking and to use AI to enhance our own skills. Lack of critical thinking and improper use of this technology can increase dependency, especially among young users.
