Islamic Emirate seeks restoration of diplomatic ties with Germany

KABUL (SW) – Deputy spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, Hamdullah Fetrat, has stated that the Islamic Emirate wants to restore diplomatic relations with Germany in order to secure the interests of the Afghan people.

Fetrat responded to the remarks made by the head of Germany’s intelligence agency regarding the collection of information from Afghanistan to assist the German federal government in its decision-making about how to engage with the Islamic Emirate.

“The Islamic Emirate desires good relations with all countries, and Germany has a long-standing, historical relationship with Afghanistan. Afghanistan wants to maintain this relationship with Germany and, within the framework of good interaction, ensure the welfare of its people,” Fetrat said.

This comes after Bruno Kahl, President of Germany’s Federal Intelligence Service (BND), in an interview with Deutsche Welle, confirmed that the agency is collecting information about Afghanistan.

Kahl mentioned that this data will help the German federal government in making decisions about how to engage with the Islamic Emirate.

These recent statements from the German official come amidst ongoing debates in Germany regarding Afghan migration and how to interact with the Islamic Emirate. However, the German government has not yet taken a clear stance on this proposal.
