Young Afghan entrepreneurs turn small idea into successful jewelry brand

It all started with a small idea—an interest in art, design, and the brilliance of precious metals. This passion led two young individuals from Parwan to invest a modest amount and establish their jewelry making brand, “Kushanian Jewelry.”

These two entrepreneurs not only offer their products to customers but also share their story of hard work, courage, and innovation to inspire others.

Fatima Rasuli, 22, and Abdul Habib Amiri, 29, are two entrepreneurial spirits who, after completing their training course, founded their jewelry making company. Now, after two years of partnership, they employ five staff members and have achieved good income from their business.

Abdul Habib shares his journey of learning and gaining experience: “I worked in some jewelry making companies to gain experience. In 2017, I founded a company called Zarrin Jewelry. In 2022, I co-founded another company with an investment of 80,000 afghanis, named Kushanian Jewelry.”

Fatima also explains her role in the company, saying: “Our work is jewelry-making; the designs are not copied from elsewhere. I learned jewelry making for three years and also mastered the art of design. My designs are inspired by nature and historical artefacts.”

Fatima adds that over time, their business has flourished, and now the number of customers and orders they receive from both domestic and international markets has increased compared to their first year. “It’s good that we have regular customers. Most of our audience is young people, as our designs appeal to them.”

However, the path to success for these two young entrepreneurs has not been without challenges. Abdul Habib states that they faced obstacles such as a lack of capital and an inadequate job market. “In the beginning, there were many challenges—no customers, no market, no capital. But now, with God’s grace, the business has improved.”

Despite their success, Fatima, as a young employer still establishing herself in the industry, mentions that their monthly income ranges from 30,000 to 60,000 afghanis. “On average, we earn between 30,000 and 60,000 Afghanis a month, which adds up to 500,000 to 600,000 afghanis annually. I personally keep around 18,000 to 20,000 afghanis per month.”

Economic experts emphasize that small businesses not only improve the economic conditions of families but can also have a positive impact on the growth and development of a country.

Abdulwafi Naibzai, an economic expert, says that individual entrepreneurship can play a key role in enhancing both family and national economies. “It is the individual who builds the family; from the family comes the community, and these communities shape the country’s economy. So, when a family’s economy is strengthened, the country’s economy is also improved. A person needs business knowledge and skills to succeed.”

Kushanian Jewelry serves as an example of a successful business founded on passion and determination, turning a small idea into a thriving brand. These young entrepreneurs not only launched their business but are also inspiring other youths who wish to follow a similar path.
