Public works ministry plans 300 km of new roads

KABUL (SW) – Officials from the Ministry of Public Works under the Islamic Emirate have announced that, in the current solar year, the ministry has completed the construction of hundreds of kilometers of roads, with plans for an additional 300 kilometers underway.

This was revealed during a briefing on the ministry’s annual achievements, presented on Wednesday, at a program held in Kabul.

Abdul Karim Fateh, the Deputy Minister for Technical Affairs at the Ministry of Public Works, shared details of ongoing road projects, including the 20 kilometers of the Dasht-e-Archi-Kunduz road, more than 39 kilometers of the Kandahar-Spin Buldak road, and several other road constructions across various regions of Afghanistan.

He further said: “The 430-kilometer Kabul-Kandahar highway is completed, and the second corridor from Hairatan-Spin Buldak, running from north to south, is also in progress. Additional sections of this project are set to begin next year.”

Additionally, officials stated that the survey and design work for 1,207 kilometers of roads and 1,087 meters of bridges has been completed. They also noted that the survey and design of the Wakhan Corridor in Badakhshan have been finished.

Ministry’s spokesman Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas reported that, over the past 10 months, approximately 3.5 million metric tons of commercial goods were transported via the Hairatan, Aqina, Torghundi, and Khaf-Herat railway lines.

Moreover, the Ministry of Public Works has signed a contract with the construction company “Noorzai Confidence” for the construction of 25 kilometers of the fifth section of the Qaisar al-Aman ring road, with a project value of 1.4 billion afghanis.
