Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a technology that has made educational resources more accessible to young people by providing diverse learning platforms. In this report, Salam Watandar spoke with 21 young Afghan individuals, including 10 men and 11 women, who are using AI to learn foreign languages and enhance their skills.
These young people say that AI has allowed them to access educational content without the constraints of time and location
Hasina, a 24-year-old from Laghman who uses AI to learn English language, states that this tool has become a substitute for in-person education for her. “I have learned new things, such as English, very well; AI has greatly helped improve my conversation skills and has made learning much easier.”
Shabnam, from Kabul, says that AI has transformed her learning process. “AI has been very effective for me in education. It has made accessing resources simpler and has sped up and eased my learning process.”
Aziza, from Parwan, shares: “AI has helped me learn English. Additionally, whenever I need, I can easily get the information I need in just a few seconds.”
Some other young people featured in this report mentioned that AI has helped them learn photography, logo design, and writing skills.
Hasina, from Kapisa, says that although she has no formal training in logo design, she can now create various logos using AI. She adds, “Using designs I learned from Canva and AI, I can create different logos for hospitals, travel companies, etc.”
Enayat, 25, who has learned photo and video editing through AI, states: “I can easily access educational videos and find any information related to my studies with ease.”
Shamla, a 21-year-old interested in writing, says that AI has helped her develop skills in writing long pieces. “This technology has helped me improve my writing skills and gain deeper knowledge in various aspects of life. AI has been very effective in my learning process.”
Experts in the technology field emphasize the importance of AI in enhancing skills, noting that it provides users with a variety of educational tools.
Mohammad Musa Mohammadi, a technology expert, says, “AI has a positive impact on individuals’ learning processes. It can offer customized content based on individual needs and adjusts the material to ensure that the learner can grasp the lesson.”
Enayatullah Alkozai, spokesman for the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, says that the ministry is working to educate the public about new technologies like AI through awareness programs.
“For capacity building and raising awareness about technological advancements, educational centers across the country are active in providing information about AI and other technological tools,” he said.
While the use of artificial intelligence as a transformative technology in the 21st century is expanding, in Afghanistan, AI has yet to reach its full potential due to a lack of investment and educational limitations in this field.
