MONITORING (SW) – The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that every year, 400,000 children and adolescents between the ages of 1 and 19 are diagnosed with cancer globally, in observance of International Childhood Cancer Day.

In a report published on its website on Saturday, the WHO noted that brain tumors, leukemia infection, and solid tumors are the most common types of cancer in children.

The organization further emphasized that in developed and high-income countries, 80% of children diagnosed with cancer receive successful treatment, owing to the availability of advanced medical facilities.

In contrast, in low- and middle-income countries, only 30% of children with cancer can access treatment.

However, there has been no immediate figure released regarding Afghanistan’s cancer statistics.

February 15 has been designated as International Childhood Cancer Day.
