UNICEF warns of water crisis threatening Afghan children

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) representative in Afghanistan Tajudeen Oyewale, has stated that the ongoing water crisis in the country is posing a significant threat to the lives of Afghan children.

In a statement released on Friday, January 17, on his X account, Oyewale emphasized that efforts in the current year must focus on supporting Afghan citizens, especially children, to combat the water crisis.

Oyewale added that in the past year (2024), UNICEF provided assistance to one million Afghan citizens, including children.

Previously, the UNICEF Afghanistan office had reported that, due to severe climate changes, over 38,000 Afghan citizens, half of whom were children, were displaced in 2024.
