KABUL (SW) – As the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) holds a meeting regarding Afghanistan, the Islamic Emirate states that UN sessions are “ineffective” without the participation of its representative.
Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the de-facto government, asserts that decisions made by the UN Security Council in the absence of the Islamic Emirate’s representative are unfair .He adds, “Decisions made without our representative are either biased or disconnected from reality and will be against Afghanistan, which benefits no one. We hope that before discussions on Afghanistan take place in such meetings, the seat should be given to the Afghan people, and Afghanistan’s representative should be there to defend our position.”
Mujahid emphasizes that to resolve misunderstandings and protect Afghanistan’s national interests, the permanent representation of Afghanistan at the UN should be granted to the Islamic Emirate.
The United Nations Security Council has scheduled to hold a session on Afghanistan on Thursday. The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) also announced that its head, Roza Otunbayeva, would participate in the UN Security Council meeting and speak about the situation in Afghanistan.
On the other hand, some political analysts suggest that if the Islamic Emirate accepts the demands of the international community, it could pave the way for Afghanistan’s participation in international meetings.
Najib-al-Rahman Shamal, a political analysts, says, “I hope that the government, based on over three years of experience, will act in accordance with the international community’s demands and international agreements, preparing the ground for the recognition.”
The United Nations has held several meetings on Afghanistan’s situation since the re-establishment of the Islamic Emirate; however, these meetings have not resulted in any significant outcomes.
