TVET signs agreements worth $1.8 million with 20 institutes

KABUL (SW) – Officials at the Technical and Vocational Education Authority (TVET) have signed agreements worth $1.8 million with 20 local institutes to implement short-term vocational training programs and fight poverty by providing job opportunities.

The agreements were signed on Tuesday, December 17, for projects aimed at enhancing vocational training and improving living conditions in various provinces.

Fazal al-Rahman Fazil, the Deputy Director of Finance and Administration at TVET, said in a press conference held in Kabul that these agreements, valued at $1.8 million, will be implemented in the provinces of Kandahar, Helmand, Daikundi, Bamyan, and Khost.

The goal is to improve nutrition among vulnerable groups, create sustainable job opportunities for youths, and promote local economic development.

Officials from some of the signatory institutions also mentioned that, alongside providing vocational training opportunities, warm meals will be distributed to the needy residents of these provinces as part of the initiative.

Zabihullah Waqif, head of the Empowerment and Women’s Department of Afghanistan, stated, “Poverty is one of the major issues facing citizens, and this program will provide temporary professional job opportunities and make better use of the agricultural products in the region. If the program is sustainable or extended, we can help even more families.”

Mohammad Karim Popal, head of the Green Road Reconstruction Institute in Kandahar, added, “The people of Afghanistan are mostly impoverished. Along with providing vocational training, our institute will distribute warm meals to the residents of these areas who are struggling with poverty.”

According to the Technical and Vocational Education Authority statistics, there are currently 164 short-term technical and vocational training centers active across Afghanistan, providing vocational education opportunities for 3,891 individuals.
