KABUL (SW) – Sergei Shoigu, the secretary of Russia’s Security Council, has said that Moscow is ready to implement infrastructure projects in Afghanistan, including railways, transport, industry, agriculture, electricity, and mining.
The Presidential Palace, in a statement on its X (formerly Twitter) account, mentioned that the Russian official discussed this issue during a meeting with Mohammad Abdul Kabir, the Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs of the Islamic Emirate, and added that Russia seeks to expand its trade and economic relations with the de-facto government.
He emphasized that Russia wants Afghanistan to regain its seat as an observer member in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
In his meeting with Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of the Islamic Emirate, Shoigu also stated that Russia would soon remove the Islamic Emirate from its blacklist to enhance political and economic relations with Afghanistan.
The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, in a statement on its X account, noted that both sides emphasized the creation of a joint commission to increase cooperation in trade, transit, and investment sectors.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of National Defense of the de-facto government has announced that Sergei Shoigu, in his meeting with Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, the acting Minister of Defense, discussed expanding cooperation in economic, commercial, and security fields.
Although Russia has not formally recognized the Islamic Emirate, it has interacted with the Islamic Emirate’s de-facto government in the fields of trade and investment over the past three years, alongside establishing diplomatic relations.
