Deal signed to install smart GPS devices in freight vehicles

KABUL (SW) – Officials from the de-facto Ministries of Finance, Transport and Civil Aviation, as well as the General Directorate of Corporations and the Afghan Post Office have signed a memorandum of understanding to have smart GPS devices installed in freight vehicles.

Officials stated on Wednesday, October 9, that the installation of the Global Positioning System (GPS) devices in freight vehicles will enhance accuracy and transparency in the country’s transit sector, allowing for safer transportation of transit goods.

Habib al-Rahman Talha, head of procurement at the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, said: “The installation of GPS is very important for preventing losses and embezzlement of property, ensuring the safety of goods, and gaining the trust of the public, companies, and traders.”

At the same time, officials from the General Directorate of Corporations announced about plans to expand postal codes and addresses in the country. They stated that efforts are underway to establish 1,405 new postal codes to improve postal services.

Ahmadjan Bilal, head of the Corporations, mentioned that in order to standardize postal services in the country, postal codes have been changed from four digits to six digits.

Additionally, officials at the Ministry of Finance discussed efforts to increase the use of technology in various aspects of governance.

Dost Mohammad Mukhlis, the administrative deputy at the Ministry of Finance, said: “The ministry is adopting an important principle of electronic governance, which is the use of technology, to align with global standards.”

It is worth noting that due to the lack of infrastructure and necessary transit standards in the country, the transit and trade processes have always faced challenges.
