Over 1.2 million megawatts of electricity domestically produced last year

KABUL (SW) – Officials from the general directorate of state-owned companies of the de-facto Islamic Emirate government, stated during a program detailing the achievements of the past year that over 42 public corporations are currently active in various sectors, employing more than 35,000 individuals.

Ahmad Jan Bilal, the acting head of the directorate, said that the Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) has produced over 1,206,000 megawatts of electricity in the past year.

He added: “In addition to domestic production, Breshna has imported over 5,672,796 megawatts of electricity from neighboring countries. The total number of companies operating under the framework of this directorate is 42, and efforts are ongoing to establish more.”

Additionally, Abdul Bari Omar, the executive director of the DABS, mentioned that it aims to provide 24-hour electricity to Kabul and the neighboring provinces within the next two years. “Within two years, we should have power in Kabul and its nearby provinces; we are working to strengthen electricity supply using our resources.”

Mohammad Nasir Rahimi, the executive director of the oil and gas companies, said that in the past year, the state companies produced up to 3 million tons of gas and oil domestically, with an additional 270,000 tons imported.

“In the past year, we had 85 fuel distribution and sales shops, and we plan to increase this number in major cities; there are some challenges, such as the lack of laboratories at ports for oil, which requires more budget,” he noted.

Other achievements over the past year by the state companies include designing over 30 valuable and non-valuable certificates, exporting 90 tons of dried apricot to Turkey, and producing 4,430 tons of improved wheat seeds.
