KABUL (SW) – Officials of the Islamic Emirate have expressed the desire to participate in the upcoming BRICS summit, according to a report by the Russian news agency RIA Novosti.
Via an official letter sent to Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Islamic Emirate has requested attendance the meeting of BRICS members, it said.
In this letter, Nooruddin Azizi, Acting Minister of Industry and Commerce (MoIC) for the Islamic Emirate, has stated: “We are interested in sending a high-level delegation, including Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, to the BRICS summit.”
BRICS is an international group consisting of emerging economic powers, including Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Earlier this year, the group welcomed new members, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, and Ethiopia.
Russia has indicated that the upcoming BRICS meeting will focus on enhancing cooperation in political, security, economic, and cultural domains.
Some economic experts believe that the participation of a representative from the Islamic Emirate in the BRICS summit could improve Afghanistan’s political and economic situation.
Taj Mohammad Talash, an economic affairs analyst, noted that the presence of the Islamic Emirate at the summit would create opportunities for collaboration with Afghanistan.
“From an economic perspective, implementing regional projects is crucial for combating poverty and unemployment. Additionally, addressing regional financial issues, both terrestrial and aerial, is vital. Furthermore, there is potential for joint planning in military trade among countries to combat terrorism,” he emphasized.
Another economic affairs expert, Mohammad Rafiq Sadiqyar, also remarked: “Afghanistan is located in the heart of Asia, and all neighboring countries have a vested interest in achieving economic and military stability. We hope that a representative from Afghanistan will also be invited to this summit.”
The BRICS summit is scheduled to take place from October 22 to 24, in Kazan, Russia, where leaders will also discuss the admission of new members.
