Islamic Emirate has 39 active diplomatic missions abroad, says Muttaqi

KABUL (SW) – Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting Foreign Minister of the de-facto Islamic Emirate government, has said that significant progress has been made in establishing diplomatic relations, pursuing an economy-focused policy, and enhancing consular services.

Muttaqi added that 39 diplomatic missions are currently operating in coordination with the ministry. He said this on Thursday, September 19, during a briefing on the ministry’s achievements over the past year.

Muttaqi emphasized, “We have achieved milestones in diplomatic relations; for instance, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have removed the Islamic Emirate from their list of terrorist organizations, and Russia is expected to follow suit soon.”

Over the past year, dozens of diplomats have been appointed to Malaysia, Turkey, Pakistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, China, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, with formal recognition from these countries.

Shafi Azam, head of economic relations at the Foreign Ministry, noted that efforts have been made to build trust through an economy-focused foreign policy. “In the past two years, we have concentrated on fostering confidence with regional and global countries, and now in our third year, we aim to implement our achievements and commence practical work,” he said.

Shoaib Baryalai, head of consular affairs of MoFA, mentioned that the ministry has made strides in three key areas of consular services: “ensuring the rights of Afghan citizens abroad, digitizing consular services, and improving accessibility for citizens seeking consular assistance.”

Among the ministry’s achievements highlighted for the past year were enhanced consular services, increased transparency, attracting foreign investment in mining, securing humanitarian aid, establishing a unified central visa issuance system through 26 diplomatic and consular missions, and providing passport services for Afghan citizens at 19 missions.
