Islamic Emirate dubs the UNHRC’s session as ‘one-sided’

KABUL (SW) – The Islamic Emirate has dismissed recent international concerns about the human rights situation in Afghanistan, following discussions at the 57th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Hamdullah Fetrat, the deputy spokesperson for the de-facto Islamic Emirate government, criticized the recent UN Security Council session, asserting that the meetings lack effectiveness without a representative from the Islamic Emirate.

He said, “The reports presented at this session are one-sided, and we don’t accept them. We request that in future meetings concerning Afghanistan, a representative from Afghanistan be present to provide responses.”

The 57th session of the UN Security Council, held on Monday, September 9, focused on the human rights situation in several countries, including Afghanistan.

During the session, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the former head of Afghanistan’s Human Rights Commission, representatives from the United Kingdom, Germany, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights, Indonesia, and several other countries expressed concern over the human rights situation in Afghanistan and called for accountability.

In response, Enayatullah Hemat, an international relations expert, dismissed the Security Council session as ineffective. He argued that the international community must work directly with the Islamic Emirate to address human rights issues.

He said: “Human rights and women’s issues in Afghanistan are troubling, but merely expressing concern and issuing statements does not bring about change. The international community should collaborate with the Islamic Emirate rather than relying on statements that do not effect change.”

The concerns raised by the international community come as the Islamic Emirate has repeatedly claimed over the past three years that such concerns are unfounded and that discussions on these topics constitute interference in Afghanistan’s internal affairs.
