KABUL (SW) – As the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly commences, authorities from the de-facto Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate have emphasized the need for positive decisions regarding Afghanistan, based on the current realities and progress within the country.
Zia Ahmad Takal, Deputy Spokesperson for the Ministry, told Salam Watandar: “Our request is that positive decisions and perspectives be presented during the meeting, considering the actual and current situation in Afghanistan. The political, economic, and social advancements made in Afghanistan should be acknowledged, leading to constructive decisions and actions.”
Additionally, Takal criticized the decision not to grant a seat to the representative of the Islamic Emirate at the UN, calling it a “disservice” to the Afghan people. The 79th session of the UN General Assembly commenced on Monday in New York City with discussions centered around the situation in Afghanistan and other countries, including Palestine.
Political affairs experts believe that the absence of a representative from the Islamic Emirate, despite the inclusion of Afghanistan in the discussions, signifies a “failure” of global efforts concerning the country.
Janat Fahim Chakari, a political analyst, said: “The lack of representation means Afghanistan will not be accountable to the UN, diminishing the impact of this meeting. If a representative were present, they could be held accountable, allowing for discussions on the issues at hand, which could facilitate solutions over time.”
Mahmoud Ezterabi, another political expert, noted that if the world and the UN are genuinely committed to addressing Afghanistan’s issues, they must open avenues for dialogue and develop structured solutions.
“This meeting is critical and vital, provided that discussions are based on a pre-established mechanism. A commitment to solving the problems of the Afghan people and reopening productive channels is essential. If the demands from either side are imposed, it will block avenues for communication,” he added.
It’s worth noting that Sohail Shahin, head of the political office of the Islamic Emirate in Qatar, criticized the decision not to invite a representative from Afghanistan to the 79th UN General Assembly, In a social media post, he stated that this action further distances the world from the Islamic Emirate.
