Uzbekistan, Islamic Emirate hold bilateral talks on economic cooperation

KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Commerce and Industry of the de-facto government announced on Thursday night, the successful completion of a bilateral meeting between the Islamic Emirate and Uzbekistan delegations.

The meeting, led by Nooruddin Azizi, the Acting Minister of Commerce and Industry, and chaired by Laziz Kudratov, the Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan, focused on several key issues.

Discussions included preferential tariffs on specific export items between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, investments in the International Trade Center in Termez, Uzbekistan, the establishment of bilateral business houses, and tri-lateral transit agreements involving Afghanistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan, Afghanistan-Uzbekistan-Pakistan, and Afghanistan-Uzbekistan-Iran, as well as, creation of economic commission and technical sub-committees.

Officials from the de-facto Ministry of Commerce and Industry noted that these “technical and negotiating” sessions are set to continue.

Officials from the ministry further announced that a delegation from Azerbaijan, led by the Deputy Minister of Economy, and a delegation from Uzbekistan, led by their Minister of Industry and Trade, have arrived in Kabul at the official invitation of the Islamic Emirate.

They are attending a trilateral meeting with representatives from Afghanistan and Uzbekistan to discuss various economic issues, including the activation of the “Lapis Lazuli Corridor.”

Nooruddin Azizi, stated that the upcoming trilateral meeting in Kabul will address various economic concerns, including transit issues and the advancement of the Lapis Lazuli trade route.
