Thousands of Afghan trucks stranded in Pakistan due to trade route blockades

KABUL/ISLAMABAD (SW) – The Afghan Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan, has reported that nearly 2,000 trucks carrying fresh fruit and vegetables from Afghanistan have been stranded in Pakistan for over a week.

According to a statement released late Wednesday, August 28, by the Afghan Embassy on its X account, trade routes in the Khyber region of Pakistan have been blocked by certain individuals, causing significant delays.

The embassy indicated that the disruption has resulted in millions of dollars in losses for Afghan traders.

Despite multiple discussions between the Afghan Embassy and Pakistani authorities regarding these trade route blockades, no resolution has been reached.

The Afghan Embassy has urged Pakistan to address the issue promptly and is prepared to collaborate with Pakistani officials to find a solution.

Afghanistan relies on five key border crossings with Pakistan for its exports and imports. However, in the past two years, these routes have frequently been closed or restricted under various pretexts, severely impacting Afghan commercial activities.
