KABUL (SW) – Afghanistan’s gross domestic production surged by 2.7 per cent last year, said officials of the National Bureau of Statistics and Information.
At the press conference on explaining the one-year achievements of the Islamic Emirate, it was noted that last year the GDP soared to 17.23 billion dollars, which is 2.7% higher compared to the previous year.
Esmatullah Hakimi, the deputy head of the Bureau of Statistics and Information, said that in the Lunar year 1402, the per capita income of Afghanistan was 493 dollars. “The per capita income of the country was 493 dollars, which has increased by 70 dollars compared to last year. This year, the consumer perception index, which includes the country’s general inflation, shows a 7.7 per cent decrease compared to last year.”
The official added that the population of Afghanistan was estimated to be 35.7 million people in the last year, of which 9.2 million people live in cities and 25 million people live in villages.
Officials at the BSI said that in the past year, more than three million Afghan citizens have been provided with electronic birth certificates, which has increased by 23% compared to last year. Implementation of a number of surveys in cooperation with aid institutions and organizations in the fields of food safety, health status and labor force was presented as one of the achievements of the BSI.
Faqir Mohammad Zayar, the general director of the BSI, said that this department has collected more than two billion Afghanis by providing services to the citizens. He adds: “In the year 1402, the Bureau of Statistics and Information collected 2.512 billion Afghanis by providing services in various sectors and deposited it into the government treasury.”
This comes amid global concerns about the wide scope of poverty in Afghanistan, and according to the statistics provided by the United Nations, at least half of the population of Afghanistan needs humanitarian aid.
