Criminal offenses tail off by 30%, MoIA reports

KABUL (SW) – Islamic Emirate’s authorities from the de-facto Ministry of Interior Affairs (MoIA) announced on Tuesday, that, in the past year, improvements in police professionalization and better security coordination have led to a significant enhancement in national security compared to the previous year.

During the annual performance review press conference held in Kabul, they highlighted that religious, national, and ceremonial events have been held securely, and at least 70 infrastructure projects have been protected by the de-facto government’s police.

Officials emphasized that, with a 90.1% increase in police investigative capacity, the rate of criminal offenses in the past year has decreased by 30% compared to the previous year. Abdul Mateen Qani, spokesperson for the MoIA, said: “Police efforts against criminal activities have been effective, resulting in a 30% reduction in crimes nationwide, which is a significant achievement.”

The ministry’s key accomplishments over the past year include conducting 250 operations against kidnappers, leading to the arrest of 76 individuals and the death of 34 others, installing 90,000 security cameras in Kabul city, seizing over 3,640 tons of narcotics and dismantling 790 drug production and processing facilities, preventing the smuggling of $1.95 million, €845,000, 4.83 million Saudi Riyals, and 100,000 Dirhams at the Afghan airports, as well as, distributing 1.745 million passports to applicants.

Despite these achievements, the Ministry of Interior stresses that security is fully maintained across the country. Mohammad Nabi Omari, the Deputy Minister, noted: “Due to the nationwide security, the number of foreign tourists has increased, which positively impacts the national economy. According to security assessments, the past year was relatively peace. Some security incidents occurred in certain areas but were neutralized in the early stages due to police measures.”

Additionally, the ministry reported a revenue of 13.471 billion Afghanis over the past year and an increase in the number of police personnel to at least 250,000.
