KABUL (SW) – At least 468 development projects, including the reconstruction of the Kabul-Jalalabad highway and reconstruction of the “Nani” culvert in Ghazni province, and some other projects have been completed in the past one year, said officials in the Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) during the one-year performance report presentation. The program held on Monday, in Kabul.
According to officials from the ministry, of these development projects, 85 were executed by the private sector.
Abdul Karim Fateh, Technical Deputy Minister of Public Works, said, “24 more projects are currently underway. Additionally, the repair and resurfacing of 1,698 kilometers of asphalt roads have been completed.”
The Ministry also revealed that contracts for the construction and reconstruction of 1,000 kilometers of roads were signed over the past year. This includes ongoing work on the Kabul-Kandahar highway and the Salang Pass highway, which are both divided into multiple sections for more effective management.
Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works, mentioned, “The Kabul-Kandahar highway is under contract with a construction company and is progressing in 13 sections, while the Salang Pass highway is divided into three sections, with work ongoing.”
Looking ahead, the ministry plans to install traffic signs along major highways and activate 17 high-capacity weigh stations at customs facilities. These measures aim to prevent road damage and regulate the weight of freight vehicles.
