Kabul gets three new passport offices

KABUL (SW) – At least three new passport distribution centers have been opened in Kabul the capital city.

These new centers have started operating in the Darul Aman, Qala-e Zaman Khan and Tangi Tarakhel areas with each center having the capacity to distribute 2,000 passports per day.

Abdul Karim Hasib, General Director of Passport of the Ministry of Interior Affairs, said that basic facilities have been provided to citizens in these centers. “Many conveniences have been considered in these centers and they have the capacity to distribute 2000 passports daily.”

Abdul Salam Hanafi, the administrative deputy of the Islamic Emirate’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that in the near future, every person who applies for a passport will go through the process and get their passport in a week.

Hanafi added: “… and a booth in the Central Bank of Afghanistan/Da Afghanistan Bank will also be established in these centers for the convenience of citizens.”

Mohammad Nabi Omari, Deputy Minister of Interior Affairs, says that these centers were created to prevent corruption.

Meanwhile, a number of Kabul residents, complaining about the delay in the passport distribution process, say that it has been more than five months since many of them registered online to get a passport, however, they have not received their passports yet.

Khalil, a resident of Kabul, said that it has been more than five months since he registered online to get a passport, but he still has not been able to get his passport. He added: “The process doesn’t proceed and even after that, my name has been removed from the list and I have not been able to get my passport.”

Roman, another resident of Kabul, said that it has been 10 months since he registered online to get a passport, but he still has not managed to get it.

According to the statistics of the General Directorate of Passports of the Ministry of Interior Affairs, in the past year, about two million passports have been distributed to citizens across the country.
