Islamic Emirate stresses on reopening of foreign embassies in Afghanistan

KABUL (SW) – Following the return of the Saudi Arabian ambassador to Kabul after approximately a year and a half and the request from the United Kingdom’s aid superintendent to reopen its embassy in Afghanistan, Deputy Spokesman for the Islamic Emirate Hamdullah Fetrat emphasized the benefits of diplomatic presence in Afghanistan.

Fetrat called on all countries to reopen their embassies in Kabul.

He stated, “Diplomatic presence in Afghanistan benefits all countries and is crucial for establishing and expanding relationships. Reopening embassies is a positive step, and the Islamic Emirate desires good relations with all nations. We request the countries without a diplomatic presence to reopen their embassies.”

Political analysts suggest that increasing diplomatic engagement with the Islamic Emirate could pave the way for its formal recognition.

Enayatullah Hemam, an international relations analyst, mentioned, “Countries are coming to terms with establishing normal diplomatic relations with the Islamic Emirate, which will have positive effects and gradually lead to recognition.”

Noor Al-Rahman Saqib, an international relations expert, added, “The reopening of foreign embassies in Afghanistan could facilitate the recognition of the Islamic Emirate.”

Currently, over 16 embassies, including those of Iran, Turkmenistan, Russia, and China, are active in Kabul. The Islamic Emirate also maintains 38 active embassies and consular offices abroad.

Previously, Zabihullah Mujahid, Spokesman for the Islamic Emirate, mentioned that representatives from the United States, Germany, and Saudi Arabia expressed interest in reopening their embassies in Afghanistan.
