Islamic Emirate welcomes diplomatic ties with Nicaragua as positive step

KABUL (SW) – In response to Nicaragua appointing a non-resident ambassador to Afghanistan based in Beijing, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate has expressed approval and welcomed this decision.

On Sunday, the ministry announced via a statement on its X account that establishing diplomatic relations with Nicaragua is a positive step forward, hoping the bilateral relations between the two countries will expand.

The statement adds: “The Islamic Emirate, for the first time, agrees with and welcomes the appointment of a non-resident ambassador from the Republic of Nicaragua to Afghanistan in Beijing.”

The ministry further instructed the Islamic Emirate embassy in Beijing to maintain close working relations with the Nicaraguan embassy.

On Saturday, Vice President of Nicaragua Rosario Murillo announced that Michael Campbell, the Nicaraguan ambassador to China, will oversee the embassy’s responsibilities in Kabul from Beijing.

Political analysts view Nicaragua’s appointment of a non-resident ambassador as a significant achievement for the Islamic Emirate. They believe that the de-facto government’s diplomatic efforts are taking substantial steps toward expanding international relations.

Mahmood Ezterabi, a political analyst, stated, “This is the greatest achievement for the Islamic Emirate and a diplomatic weakness for Western countries. Afghanistan’s diplomatic apparatus is pursuing its goals effectively with sound decisions and has succeeded in its policies in the long run. This is crucial for establishing the Islamic Emirate and positioning it in global affairs.”

Zia Hussaini, another political analyst, added, “If the Islamic Emirate leverages this opportunity well, it can build trust and draw closer to countries not aligned with the U.S., potentially influencing other nations to engage as well.”

While no country has yet officially recognized the de-facto government of the Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan, officials have previously stated that the Islamic Emirate maintains 38 active political representations, including embassies and consulates, in various countries.
