FAYZABAD (SW) – A number of young people in Badakhshan are expressing their dissatisfaction with the lack of job opportunities, stating that despite having education in various fields, they are unable to find employment.

Abdul Rahman, a resident of Badakhshan with a bachelor’s degree in economics, says he has repeatedly applied for jobs in government offices but has been unsuccessful. “I went to many places and took exams, scoring high marks, but could not find a job. Those who scored lower and had connections got the jobs,” he lamented.

Another resident, Safar Ali, shared his frustration and concern about his future due to the lack of job opportunities. He said, “Our request to the government is to provide job opportunities for the young and educated individuals. We are also citizens of Afghanistan and deserve to have job opportunities in our own country.”

On the other hand, officials from the Badakhshan Department of Labor and Social Affairs claim that the unemployment rate in Badakhshan has decreased compared to the past, and they are making efforts to create job opportunities for the youth.

Khair Mohammad Safdar, Head of Labor and Social Affairs in Badakhshan, said, “We had announced vacancies to employ 100 individuals. Among them, we hired 25 in mobile phone repair, 25 in tailoring, 25 in car repair, and 25 in computer skills.”

The lack of job opportunities has been a significant challenge for young people in Afghanistan, leading many to consider illegal migration as an alternative.
