Hundreds of water sources destroyed by recent floods in Baghlan

POL-E KHOMRI CITY – Officials from Baghlan’s Directorate of Rural Rehabilitation and Development have reported the destruction of 300 water sources due to recent devastating floods in the region.

Waseem Wahedi, the chief engineer of the directorate, told Salam Watandar that heavy rainfall and subsequent destructive floods have completely or partially destroyed 14 water supply networks and approximately 300 water sources, including wells and springs.

Wahedi detailed that most of the damaged water networks and sources are located in the Burka and Central Baghlan districts. He added that 70% of the damage occurred in these two districts, while the remaining 30% affected the districts of Pol-e Khomri, Dahana-e Ghori, Dand-e Ghori, and Doshi.

To address the immediate water needs, the directorate is providing daily water supply through tankers to 2,000 people in the Central Baghlan and Burka districts.

Additionally, hygiene kits have been distributed to this number of individuals in areas where drinking water has been contaminated.

Efforts to repair the damaged water networks are underway, with the directorate coordinating with various organizations to restore the affected infrastructure.

Despite these efforts, residents of the Shomraq area in Baghlan have expressed frustration over the destruction of their wells and the lack of drinking water, reporting that they have to purchase clean water daily.
