Analysts see Russia reaching out to Islamic Emirate for regional dominance

KABUL (SW) – The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, recently made a statement in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, regarding the Islamic Emirate as the current ruler of Afghanistan and emphasized the need to communicate with the de-facto government of Afghanistan.

The President of Russia made these statements while in the last two days, his minister of foreign affairs, Sergey Larov, and Zamir Kabulov, the special representative of Russia for Afghanistan, announced the efforts to remove the Islamic Emirate from the black list.

On the other hand, a number of political experts say that with this approach, Russia is trying to take the initiative in the region and thus narrow the space for its western competitors, especially the United States of America.

Abdul Jabar Akbari, a political expert, said: “I think Russia is trying to take the initiative of the regional games. After America’s withdrawal, Russia was one of the first countries to establish positive relations with the Islamic Emirate. Russia is trying to remove the influence of Western countries from the region.”

The President of Russia has stressed for the establishment of relations with the Islamic Emirate, but Moscow has so far not recognized the Islamic Emirate officially yet.

A number of experts, referring to Afghanistan’s political misfortune, say that until the Islamic Emirate is not recognized, Afghanistan will not be able to see stability and balance in its foreign policy.

They suggest to the Islamic Emirate’s de-facto government to pave the ground for recognition by the world.

Najib al-Rahman Shamal, another expert on political issues, said: “If the conditions for recognition are not provided according to international standards, these relations will be one-sided. Therefore, it is necessary that the current government, taking into account the national interests and religious values of the Afghan people, and maintaining the balance between the eastern and western countries, should adopt such a policy that the balance will not be disturbed and Afghanistan will once again not become a political, security and economic playground of the global powers.”

A few days back, Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate, welcomed Russia’s position to expand its relations with the de-facto government and requested the same approach from other countries as well.
