UNAMA calls on IE to end restrictions against women in Afghanistan

KABUL (SW) – On International Women’s Solidarity Day, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) stated that the United Nations calls for an end to restrictions against women and girls in Afghanistan.

UNAMA said that on this Day, the United Nations in Afghanistan asks the ruling authorities of this country to end the restrictions against women and girls, “otherwise there is a risk of pushing the country towards more poverty and isolation.”

Roza Otunbayeva, UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative and Head of UNAMA said: “As we commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day, the global issue of #Invest in Women, it should be a moment to redouble our efforts to achieve more progress.”

Otenbayeva added: “It is sad that we see the exact opposite in Afghanistan, a disastrous and deliberate negative investment that causes serious harm to women and girls and only creates obstacles to peace and prosperity.”

There was no immediate comment from Islamic Emirate authorities so far.
