KABUL (SW) – Andreas Stefansson, Secretary-General of the Swedish Committee for Afghanistan, said in a recent interview with a local audio medium that the committee has stopped operating in Afghanistan for the past three days, following a request from the de-facto government of the Islamic Emirate.
He added, “The Swedish Committee for Afghanistan is stopping its activities in Afghanistan starting today; this request is due to the decision of the Taliban and for ensuring the security of the staff; when our work is not authorized, it may pose risks.”
The Secretary-General of the SCA has emphasized that they hope the Swedish Committee can continue some parts of its aid to the people of Afghanistan through other organizations.
The Swedish Committee for Afghanistan provided assistance to those in need, especially women, children, and people with disabilities, in 18 provinces.
The de-facto government in Afghanistan, in the summer of the current year, canceled the activities of relevant institutions in the country after a copy of the Holy Quran was burned by an Iraqi citizen in Sweden.
