Mujahid asserts retribution orders as internal issue, calls for non-interference

KABUL (SW) – Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, in response to the global criticism of the implementation of “retribution orders” and the public execution of several individuals by the de-facto government, asks other countries not to interfere in this matter.

Mujahid tells Salam Watandar: “These are Afghanistan’s internal issues and no country should interfere in it and it has nothing to do with them.”

The spokesperson of the de-facto government of the Islamic Emirate emphasizes that the implementation of retribution orders is based on the people’s will, Islamic values, ​​and the national interests of Afghanistan.

Human rights groups, including Amnesty International, have strongly criticized the recent public executions, particularly the two in Ghazni last week, according to reports.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights criticized the recent executions by the Islamic Emirate and demanded an immediate stop.

The United Nations mission in Afghanistan, UNAMA, also condemned the use of capital punishment in a post on social media later Thursday, February 22, urging the authorities “to establish an immediate moratorium on the use of the death penalty, as a step toward its abolition.”

On Monday, February 26, the Islamic Emirate authorities publicly executed an individual in Jowzjan province in northern Afghanistan.

On Thursday, February 22, the Islamic Emirate authorities publicly executed two men convicted of murder in a football stadium in Ghazni the eastern Afghanistan.
