Islamic Emirate seeks to attend SCO meeting as an observer

KABUL (SW) – Mohammad Abdul Kabir, Acting Deputy Prim Minister for Political Affairs at the cabinet of the Islamic Emirate, said in a meeting with Zhao Xing, the Chinese Ambassador in Kabul, that the Islamic Emirate wants to be invited as an observer member in the upcoming meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Hamdullah Fitrat, the Deputy Spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate, told Salam Watandar that Mohammad Abdul Kabir, in a meeting with Zhao Xing on Sunday asked for China’s cooperation in this regard.

Fitrat added: “Mawlavi Abdul Kabir, in a meeting with Zhao Xing, the Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan, said that the Islamic Emirate is willing to be invited as an observer member in the upcoming meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.”

At the same time, a number of experts say that if the request of the countries from the Islamic Emirate in respect of human rights, women’s rights and opening of schools and universities to girls is accepted, it is possible that the representative of the Islamic Emirate will be invited to the upcoming meeting in Shanghai.

Noorullah Saqib, an expert on international relations, says that inviting the representative of the Islamic Emirate to the upcoming meeting in Shanghai can have a positive effect on the economic and political situation of Afghanistan.

He adds: “Inviting the representative of the Islamic Emirate to the upcoming meeting in Shanghai can have a positive effect on the economic and political situation of Afghanistan, and this is what Central Asian countries, especially China, want.”

On the other hand, Yusuf Amin Zazai, expert on political issues, says that the participation of the representative of the Islamic Emirate in the upcoming meeting in Shanghai can facilitate the formalization of this government.

He emphasizes that if the request of the countries of the region is accepted by Afghanistan in regard to human rights, women’s rights and reopening of schools and universities, there is a possibility that the representative of the Islamic Emirate will be invited to the upcoming meeting in Shanghai.

Zazai adds: “The countries of the world are concerned for the people of Afghanistan and the situation in Afghanistan, and the participation of the representative of the Islamic Emirate can simplify the field of formalization if the wishes of the world are accepted by the Islamic Emirate.”

It should be mentioned that Afghanistan participated in the meetings of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as an observer member since 2012, but since 2021 and after the rule of the Islamic Emirate, no representative from Afghanistan has been invited to the meetings of this organization.

China is the first country that has officially accepted the ambassador of the Islamic Emirate and the Chinese ambassador has entrusted his credentials to the Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate. Also, China has a special interest in investing in various sectors, including investing in Afghanistan’s mining sector.
