KABUL (SW) – On World Cancer Day, the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a report forecasting a rapid increase in the number of people affected by cancer globally by 2050.
The organization said in a report on Sunday, that cancer cases are expected to surge by 77% to reach 35 million cases in 2050.
According to WHO, factors such as obesity, air pollution, alcohol and tobacco use, along with exposure to cancer risks, contribute significantly to the rising incidence of this disease worldwide.
The report further highlights that highly developed countries will witness the largest absolute increase in cancer cases over the next 25 years.
February 4 marks World Cancer Day, a day dedicated to programs aimed at enhancing cancer awareness, promoting prevention, and advocating for the diagnosis and treatment of this disease.
