BALKH (SW) – Officials in Balkh Traffic Management say that 108 people have died and 160 others injured as a result of traffic incidents in this province during the ongoing solar year.
Abdul Qayum Mubarez, Balkh Traffic Manager, says that this number of people were killed and injured as a result of 122 traffic incidents on Balkh-Jowzjan and Balkh-Samangan highways.
Speeding, lack of awareness and non-observance of traffic rules by drivers, narrowness of roads, and lack of traffic signs on highways are the main factors of traffic incidents.
“This (solar) year, 122 accidents occurred on Balkh-Jowzjan and Balkh-Samangan highways, as a result of which 108 people died and 160 others were injured,” said Qayum.
Meanwhile, some residents of Balkh expressed concern over the increase in traffic incidents in this province and demanded that drivers observe traffic rules.
Abdullah, a resident of Balkh, said: “If the traffic management does not allow people who do not have a driving license to drive, there will be fewer traffic accidents.”
An increase in traffic incidents has also been reported in other provinces, as the issue caused concerns among citizens.
