KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that Azerbaijan is going to activate its embassy and establish diplomatic presence in Kabul.
Abdul Qahar Balkhi, the spokesperson for the Ministry, wrote on X that Ilham Nariman oglu Mammadov, the ambassador of Azerbaijan in Kabul, has handed over the official letter of the opening of the embassy of Azerbaijan to Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs On Thursday.
According to Balkhi, this is the first time that Azerbaijan opens its embassy in Kabul and sends an ambassador-level diplomat to Afghanistan.
The appointment, made official through a presidential decree on July 28, 2021, signifies Azerbaijan’s strategic positioning for bolstering its bilateral ties with Afghanistan.
Previously, Azerbaijani media reported that this country would open its embassy in Kabul by 2024.
