KABUL (SW) – Hassan Kazemi Qomi, Iran’s Ambassador and Special Representative for Afghanistan, has had another meeting with Amir-Khan Muttaqi, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the de-facto government, to discuss the establishment of a regional contact group on Afghanistan, stated the Embassy of Iran in Kabul.
During the meeting, Amir-Khan Muttaqi welcomed the formation of the regional contact group on Afghanistan, the statement added.
The statement highlighted Amir-Khan Muttaqi’s request for the Iranian representative and ambassador to convene a meeting of the regional contact group on Afghanistan in Kabul. Notably, this request has not been mentioned in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement.
“Amir-Khan Muttaqi welcomed the inception of the regional contact group, initiated by Iran, and conveyed his readiness for the establishment of a joint meeting involving the special representatives of regional countries for Afghanistan in Kabul.”
Meanwhile, the international relations analyst Mohammad-Baqer Mohseni, says that the regional countries, especially Iran, want to facilitate interaction between the international community and the Islamic Emirate. Their goal is to address the security, economic, and social concerns stemming from the instability in Afghanistan, he added.
“The first aim of the countries of the region is to integrate the Islamic Emirate with the international community, and their second aim is to address the security and other concerns about Afghanistan,” Mohseni said.
