US puts sanctions on two former Afghan officials

MONITORING (SW) – The United States has said that it put sanctions on Mir Rahman Rahmani, the speaker of the Speaker for House of Representatives of People in the republic government, and his son Ajmal Rahmani, a member of this house, due to widespread corruption.

The United States Department of the Treasury stated that the reason for this action was the corruption and embezzlement of millions of dollars from the US government contracts for the support of the Afghan security forces during the republic’s rule by an Afghan company affiliated with Mr. Rahmani.

“Through their Afghan companies, the Rahmanis perpetrated a complex procurement corruption scheme resulting in the misappropriation of millions of dollars from U.S. Government-funded contracts that supported Afghan security forces,” the Treasury Department said in a statement.

The statement adds: “The United States of America sanctioned two former officials of the Afghan government – Mir Rahman Rahmani and his son Ajmal Rahmani. Mr. Rahmani – due to their extensive role in transnational corruption, as well as 44 related institutions, are included in this sanction.”

It should be mentioned that two days ago, The United States Department of the Treasury, included two officials of the de-facto government in its list of sanctions due to human rights violations, which prompted the reaction of Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate.
