Israel-Hamas war, 61 journalists killed

MONITORING (SW) – Since the beginning of the war between Israel and Hamas, along with civilians, dozens of journalists have also been killed in these conflicts.

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) said that as of Friday, December 1, preliminary investigations of this committee has shown at least 61 journalists and media workers were killed.

The death toll as of Friday includes 54 Palestinians, four Israelis, and three Lebanese citizens.

Eleven journalists were reported injured, three were reported missing and 19 have been arrested, according to the press freedom group.

CPJ has published the names of journalists who were killed and wounded in the war between Israel-Hamas on its website.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) told Reuters and Agence France Press news agencies that it could not guarantee the safety of their journalists operating in the Gaza Strip, after they had sought assurances that their journalists would not be targeted by Israeli strikes, Reuters reported on October 27.

According to the statement issued by CPJ on Friday the deadliest day of the war for journalist deaths was its first day, October 7, with six journalists killed; the second-deadliest day occurred on November 18, with five killed.

CPJ also said it is investigating numerous unconfirmed reports of other journalists being killed, missing, or threatened.
