Five check dams to be built in Logar

PUL-E-ALAM (SW) – Officials at the Ministry of Water and Energy say that the construction of five check dams at the cost of 16 million afghanis has started in Pul Alam, Baraki Barak and Khoshi districts in the Logar province.

Minister of Water and Energy Minister Abdul Latif Mansour told a meeting held in Pul-e-Alam that water management projects worth 147 million afghanis have been approved for Logar this year. Mansour added that the works of five check dams will be put into operation in the next three months.

According to him, the purpose of building check domes in Logar is to store water, prevent floods and raise the underground water level.

The governor of Logar, Zia-ul-Rahman Madani, called the lack of water a big problem for the residents of this province and added that the underground water level has decreased compared to the past.

He called on the Ministry of Water and Energy to build water and electricity dams in the districts of Logar so that the residents of this province can get access to water for cultivating agricultural lands.

In Logar, the Ministry of Water and Energy will construct two check dams each in Pul Alam and Buraki Barak districts and one check dam in Khoshi district with a capacity of 11,200 cubic meters of water storage.
