Committee formed to defend Afghan refugees abroad

KABUL (SW) – The Islamic Emirate has recently formed a committee to defend the rights of Afghan immigrants in other countries.

Officials of the Islamic Emirate say that this committee will be responsible for ensuring the fundamental rights of immigrants.

Bilal Karimi, one of the deputy spokespersons of the Islamic Emirate, told Salam Watandar about this: “In the respective countries, if the civil, family or private rights of Afghan immigrants are violated, a committee of jurists should be formed to discuss the legal and fundamental aspects of these issues to be investigated so that legal and principled procedures are sought for it.”

For many years, Afghanistan has been the country with the largest number of immigrants in the world, and now, at least, more than five million citizens of this country are living in Pakistan and Iran, and most of them are facing human rights violations and limited access to social services.

Experts say that it is necessary to deal with the alarming situation of Afghan citizens in a number of countries such as Iran and Pakistan, but in the current situation, such committees can hardly be effective for the rights of immigrants.

Subhan Misbah, an expert on legal issues, considers the non-recognition of the Islamic Emirate by the world and the responsiveness of the governments of Iran and Pakistan to international conventions as the most important obstacles to the effectiveness of this committee.

He says: “The important issue is the functioning and effectiveness of such committees. Unfortunately, the crisis of illegitimacy and non-recognition of Afghanistan by the international community calls into question the effectiveness of such committees from a legal point of view.”

On the other hand, experts emphasize that the use of the migrant issue by Afghanistan’s neighbors as a tool to pressure the Islamic Emirate to pursue their demands makes the committee for the defense of migrants’ rights ineffective.

Mohammad Bagher Mohseni, an expert on international relations, says that in order to prevent such a situation, the Islamic Emirate should try to fight to eliminate the reasons of migration such as poverty inside Afghanistan.

He adds: “The best way is that the Islamic Emirate should pay attention to basic and fundamental tasks, and these basic tasks are for the Islamic Emirate to provide a platform where the political deadlocks that have caused economic and social problems should be broken and a government is formed that is accepted by everyone.”

This comes as the Ministry of Immigrants and Returnees is also active for this purpose in the structure of the caretaker government’s cabinet, but the efforts of this ministry and the diplomatic institutions of the Islamic Emirate in the last two years to satisfy Iran and Pakistan in order to continue hosting Afghan immigrants have remained fruitless, and now thousands of families from both countries are forcibly returned to Afghanistan every day.
