Ghor residents getting sick due to drinking water issues

GHOR (SW) – The residents of Ghor say that the drought and the decrease in the underground water level in recent years have forced them to use dirty and unsanitary water.

They told Salam Watandar that some families have been using water from wells and springs that are dry and unhealthy for years.

According to the residents of this province, many people have been infected with various diseases due to the use of dirty water.

A resident of Ghor, Mir Ahmad, told Salam Watandar: “People use this spring a lot, the whole market comes to it. They come here from the hotel, but the whole family takes water from this place, this water is not clean and all of them are sick.”

Despite the fact that health experts call water a vital element for humans, they say that excessive use of dirty water causes various diseases.

Dr. Mohammad Omar Lalzad, an expert in the health department, said: “The water wells are not healthy, the wells are shallow and the surface water is usually contaminated, which causes diarrhea and other diseases. Unfortunately, most cases of poisoning of children have been recorded in the children’s services of hospitals.”

The local officials of Ghor confirm the problem of lack of drinking water in this province and say that they have started efforts to provide access to drinking water in the center and districts of this province with the cooperation of aid institutions.

Zabihala Ghousizada, the press officer of Ghor’s Rural Development and Reconstruction Department, said: “Unfortunately, the drought of recent years has reduced drinking water in the city and villages. We are trying to solve these problems of the people with the help of the government and aid institutions.”

In addition to all this, health professionals and local officials of Ghor want people to boil unsanitary water first and then use it to prevent contracting various diseases.
