KABUL (SW) – International sanctions on the banking system and holding of Afghanistan’s state assets by the US has led to poverty in the country, said an official.
Abdulrahman Habib, the spokesman of the Ministry of Economy, says that although the caretaker government is trying to improve the economic situation of the citizens, but the freeze on Afghanistan’s foreign exchange capital and banking problems have caused these efforts to have no significant results.
He said: “The state of sanctions has left its negative effects. On the other hand, the blocking of the country’s foreign exchange capital, which is an important factor in the country’s economy as a country’s trade credit, has affected the country’s economy and the country’s gross domestic product.”
With the political isolation of Afghanistan and the collapse of political and legal structures, the economic collapse has also been one of the most important consequences of the establishment of the Islamic Emirate, whose harmful effects have been continuously affecting the daily lives of citizens for two years now.
The International Committee of the Red Cross has recently announced in a report that global sanctions against Afghanistan are one of the reasons for the deterioration of the economic situation of the citizens of this country.
In the past two years, in addition to sanctioning the authorities of the Islamic Emirate, the international community has tried to reduce the vulnerability of citizens from poverty by sending humanitarian aid to Afghanistan. But these aids have never been able to help improve the economic situation of the citizens.
According to some experts, the Islamic Emirate’s approach has caused ordinary citizens to face the negative effects of global sanctions.
Tariq Farhadi, a political expert, says that the sanction of the officials of the Islamic Emirate by the United Nations has made large companies reluctant to trade and invest in Afghanistan.
On the other hand, Nasir Rashtia, an economic expert, says that the Islamic Emirate should undertake important economic plans and strategies, so that Afghanistan can get out of the current economic crisis.
