638,954 orphans, widows and disabled people registered

KABUL (SW) – Officials of the Ministry of Martyrs and Disabled Affairs say that a total of 638,954 orphans, widows and disabled people are registered with this ministry.
Officials of the Ministry of Martyrs and Disabled Affairs made these statements during the presentation of the annual report of the Ministry in connection with the “Government Accountability Program on Sunday. According to the officials of this ministry, 149672 males and 30777 females are disabled, as well as 371420 orphans and 87087 widows across the country.
Abdul Hakim Haqqani, Deputy Minister of Martyrs and Disabled Affairs, said: “So far, 150,000 widows and orphans, 120,000 widows and orphans of the forces of the previous government, and 186,000 widows and orphans of civilians are registered with this ministry. More than 149,000 men and 31,000 women with disabilities are registered.

He added in this program that he has expanded the electronic system in 18 provinces and 78 thousand people have been biometrically registered through this.
On the other hand, the financial and administrative affairs director at the Ministry of Martyrs and Disabled Affairs, Kalimullah Afghan, said that last year, 13.5 billion afghanis were allocated to this ministry, of which 75 percent was spent. He said: “Last year, 13 billion afghani was allocated to this ministry, of which 9 billion was spent by the ministry and 4 billion was reduced by the Ministry of Finance.”

According to him, 12 billion afghanis budget was allocated to this ministry this year, of which 5 billion have been spent so far.

According to the Ministry of Martyrs and Disabled Affairs, each orphan and widow is given 2,000 afghanis, and family members of martyrs and disabled are also given 2,000 to 15,000 afghanis according to the number of family members.

Officials of the ministry also said that they have provided cash and non-cash assistance to more than 150 thousand people, but a number of disabled people and the families of the martyrs have complained because of the non-payment of their salaries.
